About Kedai-Kedai
Kedai-Kedai is a display typeface inspired by vernacular signage in Malaysia. A reverse contrast sans serif that captures the spirit of unusual typography expression from the old shop front signages.
Alternating between mechanical and humanist, Kedai-Kedai’s distinguishing trait can be found in the subtle curves of strokes, that enter into a sturdy stem in unexpected ways: slight turning at the counter of a/e, the flamboyant arms and legs of K/R. It has a rounded silhouette that contrasting with the squarish counter, giving Kedai-Kedai a soft, doughy yet crispy texture. A hint of calligraphic touch can be found in sharp-angled terminal of G/C/S too. Furthermore, alternate characters to assimilate the eclectic style from local signmakers.
Kedai-Kedai pays tribute to the vernacular signage makers in Malaysia where interesting typography expression can be learnt from.
